Belvedere-Tiburon Library Foundation

The Belvedere-Tiburon Library Foundation ( is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the Belvedere-Tiburon Library through fundraising, volunteer activity, and advocacy. Governed by a board of 15 volunteers, the Foundation’s efforts have enabled the library to expand programs, acquire and maintain a vibrant collection, and provide the community with a rich variety of lectures, events and volunteer opportunities. During its existence, the Foundation has generated many millions of dollars for the benefit of the Library.

To meet the growing needs of the Belvedere-Tiburon Library, the Foundation is creating the position of Executive Director, reporting to the Foundation Board of Directors. We seek an experienced, energized, and enthusiastic individual to increase the professional capacity of the Foundation, work well with and utilize the strengths of the Board, direct annual and capital fundraising and communications efforts, and engage and work with volunteers and the community to help the Belvedere-Tiburon Library achieve its exciting plans for the future.


  • Serve as professional administrator of the Foundation; ensure operational competence, compliance, and fiscal responsibility; improve or create effective systems for communications, recordkeeping, and stewardship.
  • Propose income plans and expense budgets to the Foundation Board for the continuing growth of the Foundation; propose plans for staffing and the use of outside expertise.
  • Serve as a principal spokesperson for Library support; undertake a comprehensive communications plan with clear messages; represent the Foundation to the press; serve as a key partner to the Head Librarian.
  • Direct all fundraising on behalf of the Library; ensure that activities are coordinated and conducted well; continue to grow the annual giving program through upgrade and acquisition; build the planned giving program; prepare leaders and prospects for a future campaign.
  • Direct and coordinate the capital campaign for the just-approved library expansion.
  • Direct all earned income activities; ensure appropriate financial systems and controls are in place; oversee Corner Books, the Foundation’s used book store; propose new means to generate greater earned revenue.
  • Provide direction and support to volunteer activity; make wise use of volunteers, bring them to greater effectiveness, and provide them the stewardship they deserve; ensure that events are financially rewarding as well as successful in informing and engaging the community.


  • Enthusiasm for libraries and the mission of the Foundation
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and financial skills
  • 5 or more years’ experience in nonprofit fund development
  • Superior communications skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience in working with board members and volunteers
  • Familiarity with Belvedere and Tiburon a plus
